Weekly Quiz.  We will have a weekly quiz this year, in an attempt to help you keep on top of the learning.  The quiz questions are posted outside of my room, as well as here, approximately 5 days prior to the quiz.

See our next unit for future quiz information.

Assignments.  These are the assignments that have been assigned for this unit.  If there is no due date set, you will not submit it, simply complete it and have it in your binder.

Note:  Dates that assignments were assigned are approximate, as I teach three classes, and not on the same day.

Heterogeneous/ Homogeneous Experiment

Assigned: Nov 25/27th

Due: With Binder

This task involved observing three common beverages with the naked eye, a magnifying glass and a microscope, recording observations, drawing observations and discussion at each stage whether the observations indicated a homogeneous or heterogeneous material.  The worksheet may be found here.

Properties Homework

Assigned: Nov 27/28th

Due: Next Period

This task involved choosing three random objects, then making an extensive list of properties for each of those objects.

Mixtures Lab Write-up

Assigned: Dec 6th

Due: Dec 18th

This task involves documenting the 8 mini experiments performed in class.  The lab write-up is to be completed individually, but I encourage talking to peers about observations/ideas.  Here are pictures taken during the activities.

Particle Theory Note

Assigned: Dec 10th/11th

Due: With Binder

This was simply a note shown in class to accompany our discussion on the particle theory of matter.  The contents of this note are very important, and it is expected that you have the five postulates memorized and be able to use them for the rest of the year (and beyond).

Filtration Experiment

Assigned: Dec 11th/12th

Due: With Binder

This experiment involved filtering a variety of substances and making observations throughout the process.  You need to have the instruction sheet and the completed questions in your binder.  The instruction sheet may be found here.

Review Questions

Assigned: Dec 13h

Due: With Binder

In class you were shown 7 questions.  Those questions are to be answered and in your notebook.  The answers are posted here, it is your responsibility to check them to be sure you have them correct.  Please see me if there is anything you do not understand.

Saturation Lab

Assigned: Jan 8th

Due: With Binder

This task involved creating a saturated solution of sugar water, then using the measured values of solute and solvent you determined the concentration point of sugar in water.  There were also questions to accompany the experiment, which may be found here.

Concentration Calculations

Assigned: Jan 9th

Due: With Binder

This worksheet involved using a mathematical formula (concentration = mass of solute divided by volume of solvent) to determine the concentration of different solutions.

Air Purification Questions

Assigned: Jan 15th

Due: With Binder

This assignment was to read two newspaper articles and an advertisement for an air purification system, then you were to answer some questions based on that reading.

Distillation Questions

Assigned: Jan 20th

Due: With Binder

These questions were a follow-up to our two day experiment on distillation.  After distilling our salt solution you were to use your dried samples to answer the questions on the worksheet.

Dissolve Rate Graph

Assigned: Jan 28th

Due: Feb 4th

In class you did a series of experiments to compare the dissolve rate of three different solutes in three different temperatures of solvent.  You job is to graph the results in a triple bar graph.  The results may be found on the Twitter feed on my webpage.
